I find that looking up books in Ingram is much easier than
looking up books in other libraries. To begin, I actually know how to look up a
book and not just ask the librarian for help. Showing what floor the books are
on helps a lot so that I am not just wandering around the entire library
looking for the book. In Ingram, I’ve noticed that the books are separated into
specific categories. For example, my groups’ topic is Anorexia, and each time I
looked up a book pertaining to anorexia or body image it was in the same
section on the 3rd floor and all of the call numbers are similar. This
can help me to find a specific book and I can also find other books that have
to do with Anorexia. The system here is very easy and helpful to understand.
Using Gil is also a good way to help find not only books in the library but
e-books as well. If a book is checked out you can always find an article or
that is peer reviewed or that uses expert opinions which is exactly what we
need for our research paper. Ingram has many ways to get different information
that is vital for any assignment.
i agree, finding a book in ingram library is easy. I didnt know that the books were seperated into different categories, i my learned something new from reading your blog. So when im looking up my books for the project i will be sure to keep that in mind to make it easier for me and save time !
ReplyDeleteFinding books in the Ingram library is easier than locating books in other libraries. I also found it very helpful that similar books are in the same general area. Now when doing research for our group project we will know what direction to head in when looking for books on anorexia. But we can not forget that other useful sources maybe located in other spots of the the library.
ReplyDeleteThat is GREAT that you noticed that they are organized by subject! Those numbers aren't random, they're selected based on what the book is about. Some librarians actually try to make people learn the system, but I think that just knowing there is a system in place is good enough! If you are interested, though, check out the wikipedia page on it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Congress_Classification. (I'd give you the official Library of Congress link, but their page is more of a pain to navigate!)
